Red Girl

One Million Girls is a nonprofit Organization striving to empower, educate, and energize the girl child residing in various countries in the world. Its chapter in Ghana is. The Red Girl which is campus based and made up of members with diverse academic backgrounds contributing their knowledge and resource to the problem of menstrual hygiene faced by girls. The Red Girl (OMG) as part of its mission is to promote girl child education by educating and providing menstrual hygiene products to girls in deprived communities and schools whilst advocating to end menstrual stigma. Girls of school going age in deprived communities are not able to afford Sanitary Pads consequently, forcing them to socially isolate and even absent themselves from school or quit due to the stigma and embarrassment.

OMG Ghana aspires to change this narrative by donating menstrual hygiene kits to girls so as to curb the menace of stigma and absenteeism. In line with our objectives, OMG Ghana would be having its maiden project dubbed “The Red Girl Nyankpala Project” which is scheduled on 28th May, 2021 at Nyankpala D/A JHS. The program is to expose beneficiaries to proper management of menstruation in a hygienic way thus, enhancing their cognitive understanding on menstrual health.

We call on corporate bodies and individuals who are passionate about girl child education to support us by donating in cash for the purchase of the items as well as other menstrual health resource such as sanitary pads, panty liners, panties, deodorants and other menstrual kits to us. Any kind donation would help our vision of ending period poverty. We call on everyone to support The Red Girl (OMG) with resources that will help end period poverty. Close tie would be established with the girls and the female teachers in order to monitor and document the progress of the project with possible outcomes where pupils would be able to demonstrate how to properly use menstrual kits, increased attendance in schools by girls and reduction in menstrual stigma and social isolation of girls.
